The title has been part of our Catholic history since the 9th century and the patroness of St. Mary, Star of the Sea downtown, Duluth, almost since our beginning as a diocese. The title emphasizes Mary's role as a sign of hope and a guiding star for Christians. The Blessed Virgin Mary will lead our young people, and all of us to Jesus.”

Oh Mary, our Mother, whom all souls call Stella Maris, GUIDE US TO THE HEART OF YOUR SON JESUS CHRIST.

Teach us, you who are the Star of the Sea, TO LEAD, TO LOVE AND TO SERVE LIKE HIM.

Stella Maris, our protector and guide, pray for us, that we may live in accordance with the will of God. Be our teacher from heaven, to know His great mercy, to live fully in His love, to celebrate faithfully His traditions, and to walk steadfast in His truth.

Oh sweet Stella Maris, UNITE OUR SOULS TO JESUS.

Oh bright shining star, POUR COURAGE IN OUR HEARTS AND GUARD US ON OUR WAY.
