Fall Flannel Fest and Fr. Ben 5K 2025

Stella Maris Academy's annual Fall Flannel Fest proved to be a tremendous success this past weekend, bringing together students, families, and community members in a celebration of tradition and shared values.

The festival, which serves as a vital fundraiser for the academy's growing activities program, kicked off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, with the inaugural Father Ben 5K. Runners of all ages took to the school's new continuous-loop trail, marking the beginning of what SMA hopes will become a cherished annual tradition.

The race honors Father Ben Hadrich, who served as the academy's chaplain during its foundational first two years and left an enduring impression on the community. For many at the academy, Father Ben's legacy goes beyond his formal role. His genuine enthusiasm for students, his presence at school events, and his love of running helped shape the school's identity during its early years. Though health challenges have limited Fr. Ben’s recent involvement with the school, the 5K offered a meaningful way to recognize his contributions and keep his spirit alive within the community.

"Father Ben was an avid runner and just loved to be around kids," said Chris Lemke, activities director at Stella Maris Academy. The Father Ben 5K was designed to honor that legacy while looking forward. The event drew participants from throughout the community, signaling strong support for the academy and its mission.

Following the race, the school held a recognition ceremony at 10:30 a.m., celebrating Fr. Hadrich, race sponsors, and winning runners. The festival continued from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with food, hay rides, and family-friendly sports challenges that drew enthusiastic participation.

Together, these programs show  how  Stella Maris is building a complete educational experience—one that balances academics, faith, and extracurricular engagement.

"This event was open to the community," Lemke said. "And we were grateful for everyone who attended." With a successful inaugural run behind us and a thriving school community moving forward, Stella Maris Academy has every reason to look ahead with confidence.
