Stellabration 2026: A Night of Community, Generosity, and Bavarian Spirit

The annual Stellabration returned last week, transforming the evening into a lively Oktoberfest celebration. Held on May 29th, the event was not just a night of lederhosen and festivities, but a crucial fundraiser supporting all Stella Maris Academy campuses. From curriculum costs to playground equipment, the funds raised are essential to the school's operations, making the overwhelming success of this year's event a true testament to the community's dedication.

Sarah Pennings, the driving force behind planning Stellabration, reflected on the event's success and the incredible spirit shown by attendees. When asked about the inspiration for the Oktoberfest theme, she noted that the goal was simply to choose something fun and engaging. The community certainly delivered, fully embracing the theme with enthusiasm and school spirit. "It was nice to see people come with such a great spirit and enthusiasm for the theme and for our school," Sarah shared, noting how the two seem to go hand in hand.

One of the standout moments of the night, according to Sarah, was Hilaire Hauer’s fantastic Bavarian style singing, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Beyond the performances however, the true success of the evening was found in the remarkable generosity of the Stella Maris community. The silent auction was particularly notable, seeing nearly double the success of previous years. This achievement was driven by a combination of parent and teacher contributions, from classroom-themed baskets to donated experiences. Sarah highlighted how these diverse contributions, whether big or small, are what make the event truly successful.

Organizing an event of this scale is no small feat, but she credited the long-standing, solid committee for making the process seamless. While logistical elements, like switching to a new bidding system, presented minor challenges, the team's ability to work together ensured a smooth execution. The ability to bid both in-person and remotely has been a staple for years, and this year saw strong participation across the board, proving that the desire to support Stella Maris extends far beyond those who could attend in person.

Looking at the broader impact, the funds raised during Stellabration are vital to the school's operating budget. Notably, the "Fund-a-Need" initiative this year focused on financing a new playground, a project that will benefit not only the school's programs but also the wider community. When asked what she would say to the sponsors, donors, ticket buyers, and volunteers, Sarah expressed deep gratitude. "Thank you is never enough," she said, emphasizing that the school truly could not function without the ongoing support of its families and local businesses.

For Sarah, the most rewarding part of Stellabration is the sense of community it fosters. While she spends the evening ensuring everything runs smoothly, the positive feedback from attendees makes it all worthwhile. "My focus is, how can we bring our community together just to remind them how amazing we are collectively," she explained. As for next year's theme? It's too soon to say. The committee will reconvene in the fall to begin brainstorming, seeking fresh inspiration to create another memorable night for the Stella Maris Academy community.
